Paedophile jailed for Nine years
The service manager of one of Torbay’s leading Ford dealerships has been jailed for child rape and sex abuse against young girls over a period of 30 years.
Appearing at Exeter Crown Court Gerald Frank Norsworthy, 60, was jailed for nine years.
During a week-long trial, the jury was told that Norsworthy, the service manager with Gliddon Ford in Torbay, had started indecently assaulting the girls in 1976.
Between 1981 and 1983, he raped one of his victims on a kitchen floor and abused other girls until 2006. He used to give the girls presents and bribe them with money, telling them not to tell anyone what he was doing.
The offences came to light when one of the girls blurted out what had happened to her while visiting a neighbour and her mother contacted police.
Norsworthy, formerly of Kingsway Avenue, Goodrington, Paignton, South Devon, had pleaded not guilty to one charge of rape, seven of indecent assault and six of sexual assault.
He was cleared on the direction of Judge Griggs on two of the charges of indecent assault but convicted by the jury on all other charges.
Norsworthy told the court the girls had invented the allegations against him and nothing inappropriate had ever happened between him and any of them. He could give no explanation as to why the girls should make up the claims against him.
Norsworthy was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and banned from working with children indefinitely.
He was also banned from associating with any child under 17 in a public place unless supervised.
Judge Jeremy Griggs told him: “You were found guilty by the jury of serious sex offences and there is no mitigation.
“You subjected your victims to the painful ordeal of having to come to court and give evidence. You have shattered and ruined their lives. You groomed your victims with alcohol and monetary bribes in payment for sexual favours.
“In one case, it went as far as rape and one of your victims has had to live with what happened to her for 30 years.
“All this offending was a clear breach of trust.”
