Hayling Island paedophile had sex with girl

PAEDOPHILE who had sex with a 14-year-old girl has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Sean White was found guilty of sexual activity with a child after a trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

Despite the jury’s verdict, the 40-year-old still insists he did nothing wrong.

But a judge said White’s actions had a drastic effect on the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

White, of Queensway, Hayling Island, slept with the girl in June 2009.

Elisabeth Bussey-Jones, defending, said: ‘He maintains his innocence.’

White, who has previous convictions for offences of violence, was cleared of 10 other charges relating to the same girl.

Jailing him, Judge Roger Hetherington said: ‘I put out of my mind entirely that you were also charged with other matters. The offence was committed against a girl who at the time was aged 14.

‘You took advantage of her. I must have regard to the impact that such an offence has on the victim and I have read the victim impact statement.

‘This offence had an immediate and drastic effect on her.’

The judge also imposed a restraining order on White to keep him away from the victim until the court decides to lift it.

White will also have to sign the sex offenders’ register, although the court heard he had so far refused to do so.
